             14th ORIGINAL-QRP-CONTEST (5/6th-July-2003) Soap Box
             ----------------------------------------------------

Dear OQRP-Contest friends,

as a first partial 14th OQRPC result here the participants' comments,
representatively reflecting contest mood and QRP mindset on the first
weekend of July. Informative reading!

                         - - - - - - - - - - -

81 years old but entry O-QRPC, always! (GM4BKV)

A contest I don't want to miss - the only one I take part in, by the way.
I'm looking forward to the next one (DL1AVD)

Condx are always fooling us in the summer. On Saturday I thought 40m
had been prohibited lately, hi.
This was my 14th OQRP contest - who took part in more? (DL1HTX)

...looking forward to next OQRPC, hope to have my 20m TRX ready then (OZ9KC)

On Saturday I was the only radio amateur for 400-500km in any direction.
Is a dead zone on 40m during daytime in the summer permitted at all? (DK3UZ)

I hope to be back next time with a better antenna, more time to operate and
better conditions including lower noise. Keep up the good work! (G4HSO)

In this contest I employed a transceiver I actually built for QRP-MAS
(55 parts) (DL2BXC)

...holidays on Atlantic coast, family and friends visited us -
so I could not work full time in contest (F6ACD)

Unfortunately there was only time on sunday. It is amazing how well
even VLP stations are being heard in this contest (DJ5KZ)

Erected a dipole on a 10m fibre pole especially for the OQRPC.
Was fun as always, despite only a short participation (DL1RNN)

This time without mains, only a lead accumulator and a paraffin
oil lamp. And it works, too! (DL6CGC)

On Saturday it was downright tedious to make QSOs. On Sunday propagation
was quite normal (DL1ARH)

Very nice to meet a lot of old friends! (OZ3AAA)

... only 4 QSO with my brand-new Rockmite ... unfortunately almost no
time, because QRL in T9 (T99RM = DL2JRM)

Contest was ok, not too much qrw (DJ9IE)

Because of travel preparations only 5 QSO - just the same:
Taking part is what counts! (DJ3KK)

The worst propagation condx I have ever experienced in OQRPC (G0KRT)

... lots of fun with QRP/VLP, and the OQRP contest is a good opportunity
to further the QRP idea, regardless of whether handmade or open (ON/DL1RPL)

Conditions were difficult for me. My aim: Taking part! (HB9JBO)

Nice contest, was real fun again (DL3AKF)

I made a special LX-pedition for the OQRPC...was an extra multiplier for
many stations ... condx were very bad but we had a lot of pleasure
(LX/ON6WJ)

Sorry to have no typical QRP-TRX yet but maybe in next OQRPC I will.
Thank you for a very attractice contest (SP5GBJ)

During VHF/UHF-Contest (in OK POLNI DEN) I made 5 QSO in OQRPC (OK1DZD/p)

Couldn't stay until the end, sri - had a good time just the same (DK8SX)

A nice QRP weekend again, even though propagation wasn't that
breathtaking - it didn't lessen the operator's pleasure (DF5LW)

Unfortunately the worst condx on 14MHz of the last fortnight (DL2DSD)

20m compensated the 80m failure with short skip in DL (DJ5AA)

Strong rain "drowned" my GPA. Hung up an Inverted Vee for 20m ...
Worked a little better at least (DL9CE)

QRN on 80m but many stn on 40&20. Again a very friendly QRP session (OK2BTT)

I like the competition ... trying to be the champ - that's it (DL8ABH/DL0HV)

Did not have too much time, had to see friends & to pack for a trip (PA9RZ)

QRP is even more fun than MP, but also more exhausting for the
"filter in the ear" and the "decoder in the head" (DJ1KAI)

Great fun as always but conditions not as good as last year (ON6NW)

... only after 1000 on Sunday it went well on 20m (HB9RE)

This time I used the Pixie, as before in QRP-MAS ... really amazing,
how far such a frugal design will get you (DL1SAN)

Using direct conversion in a contest is tedious after all.
What one needs is a better selective ear (DK2KV)

Poor conditions. See you all in December (PA3FSC)

No Packet radio available, modem defect ... so log via snail mail (PA3HBX)

Five times a malicious short circuit struck my trx in the contest.
Then I quit the race (DL8UAW)

This time I didn't feel like making it through the whole contest ...
but my QSO partners shall have their full number of points (DJ1ZB)

Completely home made rig, from the key all the way to the antenna (DL2RT)

Like many other QRPers my hobby is more experimenting than making QSOs.
But in this contest I could easily go along in CW. I was sorry that there
were not more G-stns on the band this morning (PA3CRC)

Signals were weak, made only a few contacts (HB9HQX)

1w couldn't fight wobbulating and other QRM effectively (DL9QM)

The planned sequence of events was disturbed by the Tour de France.
But all went quite well after all (DL1JGA)

The contest is losing class - heard stations unable to send their
call sign error free (DL7VPE)

Due to other commitments very short time for this nice contest (PA0RBO)

Hope to hear all in the next contests (YL2GTD)

On Saturday rather mediocre, on Sunday good Europe & DL condx (DK5RY)

Later on good condx on 20m, and I couldn't resist increasing my 3w
ODX considerably ... This was a completely new experience, the power
of a bicycle headlamp got me half around the world ...! (DL1AZK)

In order to "crank up" the bands I operated under both DL0OG and
DJ2GL (DJ2GL)

Regrettably very little time, family festivities ... (DK1LG)

This time only a short term ... Attended a campers' meeting. Ant 6m
vertical, counterpoise: random wire on the ground around the van (DF2SJ)

Always glad to see you keeping up QRP and homebrewing (DL7UWE)

... thanks for yet another fine contest! If only some wouldn't hurry so
and at least wait for "final rogers" despite QSB and QRM ... (DL2ARL)

No QRN and many stations qrv. Until next OQRPC (DL2NH)

... hopefully sufficient to get into the top 30 (DL1BBO)

This is the second time I take part in this contest and again I'm
astonished by its beauty ... an enjoyable contest! (I2AZ)

Can't wait for my "Rockmite pure" result (DJ6FO)

Was amazed by the good short skip propagation on 20m, thus VLP
QSOs inside DL became possible (DL2HRF)

Almost missed the QRN this year, alas also the good conds of years
gone by (DL6AAF)

High (local?) noise level on 20m, heard next to no stations. 40m behaved
normally on my indoor mag-loop (2.2m/side, adjacent to a wall). Little
heard and nothing worked on 80m. Said mag-loop's disadvantage (DL8LRZ)

Very good conds, had fun (DM3SWD)

I have observed not very good conditions because I have heard a few
DX stations only (OK1DMP)

I preferred to spend my time to good conditions on 50 Mhz, therefore only
a small amount of time left for the Original QRP Contest (PA0FEI)

                         - - - - - - - - - - -

agn mni tks fer translating DL into G to Eddi, DK3UZ!
